Services in memory of Rev. U. G. Sholty were held in the   Methodist Church last Sunday. The sermon was delivered by Rev. JF  Crowder, who paid an eloquent tribute to the character of his   late friend and coworker. Rev. SV McKee and Rev WT Cuppy also   eulogized the departed pastor, whose life, though so short, was   full of good works. - typed by kbz

After many weeks of intense suffering, Rev. UG Sholty passed   away Monday night at 7:15. The body was taken to Wabash, where   the funeral was held on Wednesday. Ulysses Grant Sholty was b. at   Laketon, Wabash Co, July 25, 1868. He united with the 1st   Methodist Church of Wabash when but 13 years of age. When a young   man he acted as Sec. of the YMCA of Wabash and did a most helpful   work among the young men. He worked on his father's farm till he   was 20 and then went to Evanston, ILL where he studied theology   in the Garritt Biblical Institute. His first work as a minister   was in No. Dakota where he was made Deacon on April 23, 1893. He   here held two charges, first at Gladstone and then at Steele. In   1895 he returned to Indiana and took charge of the Church at   Leiter's Ford where he remained until his removal to Waveland, in   Sept 1898. On Sept. 13, 1896, he was ordained to the office of   elder at the meeting of the NW Conference of Indiana, held that   year at Terre Haute. He was married Jan 22, 1891 to Miss Ella C.   Roser of Wabash. To them have been born four children, all of   whom survive the father, although the babe is in a critical   condition at this time. Mr. Sholty was attacked with the grip in   February and acute Bright's disease developed. He held his last   public service on March 5, since which time he was confined to   the house. At times he suffered intensely, but he bore the pain   uncomplainingly. During his short lifetime he was instrumental in   pointing many a soul to the Savior and his supreme ambition in   life was to win men and women to Christ. In his death the Church   has been deprived of a faithful pastor and the community has lost   a valuable citizen and God fearing man. - - typed by kbz

Rev. U. G. Sholty, pastor of the Methodist Church at Waveland, died Monday night at seven o’clock. He was taken ill six weeks ago with the grip and acute Bright’s disease developed. The body was taken to his old home in Wabash on Tuesday for interment. He was thirty years of age and leaves a wife and four small children.  Mr. Sholty was quite a popular young minister and his death is deeply regretted by his congregation and indeed all Waveland. It is thought that Rev. Claude Travis will be appointed to fill out the year there. - thanks to S for all her super work in the obit section of this site
